This sample population happens to be registrants for a free t-shirt drawing on http://whitetail.com, a website I own.
A few things jump out with even a casual glance at the map. First, most of the people are east of Nebraska. There are almost no registrants in the west. This is interesting because this site has not been promoted overtly and there is no clue as to its whereabouts.
Second, understand that the dark green areas are higher income regions and the lighter are lower income. This is based on the 1990 census. The people seem to be spread out in both high and low income. But if you look closely, the dots are small in really high income areas like Chicago and New York City. There are good numbers in Atlanta and Minneapolis, but there are also very large numbers in southern Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana.
The map gives you a broad overview. We have an additional tool for more precise analysis.
